1/27 Update

On January 19th the 2021 Rut Mountain Runs sold out within hours of registration opening to the public.  About 60% of capacity was filled prior to registration opening by our 2020 Rut Participants who had priority deferrals and registration opportunities.  If you did not use your 2020 deferral or priority registration for 2021, you have missed your window but will again have the opportunity in January of 2022.  There will be no waitlist for any of our events. Thank you to all who signed up!  We are so excited to share time with you in Big Sky this September!

Rut Runt Run registration is currently closed. We did not open it due to covid and will reconsider this summer as we are closer to the event date.

Email Correspondence to 2020 Deferred Rut Runners on 12/30/20

Hey there Rut Runners who deferred from 2020,

One more important update before you go to claim your 2021 deferrals between 1/1-1/15.

If you do not see ‘The Rut Mountain Runs’ in your list of races when you sign into your Runsignup profile it means you either registered without signing into your account, or you registered while signed into someone else’s account. This is very common for our Rut Runners who attended one of our locals sign up parties in Missoula or Bozeman last year.

To fix this, please log in using the email address you originally used when signing up, then scroll down your profile page and you will see an area called ‘Lost and Found’ toward the bottom. If you signed up for The Rut using the same email you logged in with, then your race should be in the Lost and Found list and you can claim it as your own, which will then import it into your account. Once your race is in your account you can complete your deferral for 2021.

Here is a tutorial by Runsignup.com to help you through the process if you have any issues.

If you are still encountering issues, we are here to help you.  We’ve got a 15-day window, so don’t panic if you can’t get registered specifically on the 1st. Our registration director Dana Bandy will be happy to help you, but will be taking time off on New Years Day to celebrate the end of 2020, just like the rest of us!

Lastly, if you for some reason have not gotten out previous emails regarding deferrals, you can find them on our updates page on the Rut website.

All our best,

Team Rut

Email Correspondence to 2020 Deferred Rut Runners on 12/23/20

Greetings Deferred Rut Runners,

If you are receiving this email it means that you chose to defer your 2020 Rut registration to either the 2021or 2022 Rut Mountain Runs.  Action is required for you to claim your deferral for the 2021 Rut to be held in Big Sky, Montana September 3rd-5th.  Please read this email carefully so you know what steps you must take to ensure you are registered for the 2021 event.

Timeline:

  • If you would like to defer to the 2021 Rut, you will have the opportunity to do so between January 1st- January 15th, 2021.
  • Registration will then open to the public on January 19th at 8 am Mountain Standard Time. We expect the event to fill quickly.  Once it is full for 2021, you can no longer use your deferral for this year.
  • If you would like to defer to the 2022 event, no action is required at this time.

How the deferral process works:

You will be given a credit for the value of the 2020 race or races you were signed up for.

Below are examples to illustrate the ways you can and cannot use your deferral:

  • If you were signed up for the 2020 11K, you can use that credit to sign up for the 2021 11K.  The same goes for the other distances.
  • If you were signed up for the 2020 11K and want to sign up for the 2021 VK, 28K, or 50K, you can use your 11K credit towards the other events and then pay the remaining difference.
  • If you were signed up for the 50K and want to now do the 11K you can use your credit; however, there are no refunds for remaining credits if you choose an event with a lower registration fee.
  • If you were signed up for multiple races in 2020, will need to claim your deferral for each race one at a time. Runsignup does not allow you to claim multiple races at once.
  • If you use your deferral for 2021, once you have registered, you can not defer from 2021 to 2022.
  • If you signed up for one event in 2020, you can only sign up for one event in 2021, through your deferral. If you would like to sign up for more than one event, you must go through the normal registration process.
  • When using your deferral, you cannot register other participants. They must wait for the public registration opening on January 19th.

How to claim your 2020 Deferral for the 2021 Rut.

  • Sign in to your Runsignup.com account.
  • Click on your profile.
  • Click on the “Deferrals” or “My Deferrals” tab.
  • Complete your deferral as prompted.

**The deferral only works if you go through your ‘Deferrals’ tab.  If you try to sign up through the normal registration process, you will be charged!**

Lastly, we know that there are still uncertainties surrounding 2021 in light of the COVID pandemic.  You can see our latest updates and correspondence HERE, as well as our current COVID guidelines and process HERE.

11/9/20 Update

Hey Rut Runners,

Just a quick note to let you know we are working hard towards offering you an in-person Rut Mountain Runs experience in 2021 in Big Sky. The event dates are set for September 3rd-5th.

While we do not know what the future holds in regards to the COVID pandemic, we head into the new year feeling confident in our ability to execute safe, professional, and well organized in-person events. Keep an eye out for more communications regarding our Covid protocols and guidelines heading into the 2021 registration opening.

Of course, we will be working closely with Big Sky Resort and local health department officials to design a plan that is safe for our runners, volunteers, staff, and the Big Sky community.

Online registration will open on January 19th, 2021 at 8:00 AM MST. Prior to registration opening to the public, we will offer priority registration for those who signed up for the 2020 Rut but then deferred, chose a refund, donated their registration, or transferred into our 2020 Rut Virtual Runs. This priority registration window will be from January 1st-15th.

Much more correspondence to come. In the meantime, take good care.

Best,

Mike Foote
