SPECTATOR HUB
We are on a mission to set our Rut spectators up for success in cheering on our thousands of Rut Runners over race weekend! It’s our goal to have incredible energy on the course for our runners by giving spectators all the tools and info they need to get to their runners as much as possible. Please read below for all the spectating details. Lastly, a friendly reminder that while we encourage spectating and cheering, no crewing or pacing is allowed at any Rut event.

VK Spectator Spots:
- You can hike up the VK route and cheer people on until you reach Bonecrusher Ridge. Or you can take the Swiftcurrent Lift to the halfway point of the VK. No spectating is allowed beyond that point due to the technical and steep nature of the terrain. Also, there is no public access to the summit via the tram on Friday. Only VK runners may use the tram to download from the summit.
Runt Run Spectator Spots:
- The Rut Runt Run is perhaps the highest energy, most spectator friendly race of Rut weekend. We highly encourage you to be in the Big Sky Resort Base Area to cheer on the Rut Runts as they conquer the hills, roads, trails and hay bails on the 1K loop course.
Rut Runner Tracking with the Competitive Timing app.
Download the Competitive Timing App on iOS or Android then select the Rut Mountain Runs to follow runners’ progress and splits. In the app, you can easily access event info like the schedule, or set up text and email notifications when a runner goes through an aid station.
Pace Calculators for each Rut event
Our friends at Competitive Timing have been working hard to create a tool that helps create accurate aid station splits based on estimated finish times. If you are running, use the pace calculators to estimate your aid station splits. If you are spectating, use the pace calculator to more accurately guess when your runner will be coming through the next aid station based on the split from the last aid station.
