(Rut Mtn. Runs RD’s Mike Foote and Mike Wolfe hard at work course scouting last September)
After exploring and experiencing mountain running races in the US, Europe, South America and beyond, these two were excited to bring a similar event back to their home turf. Both “Mikes” live in Missoula, Montana and are accomplished mountain runners on The North Face Ultra Running Team.
Mike Wolfe, a recovering attorney with a love for steep mountains, grew up exploring the rugged terrain of southwest Montana. With a last name like Wolfe, Mike is also an avid hunter. Mike remembers hearing of established elk camps based in the area of the Rut 50K course near Lone Peak. Early fall brings the elk mating season known as the rut. According to Wolfe, there is magic to the rut. It encompasses the raw, passionate and exciting feel he is excited to bring to this event!
Mike Foote brings his race director background to The Rut Mountain Runs. As an employee of The Runner’s Edge running store (The official organizer of The Rut) Mike works year round establishing, organizing and executing almost a dozen races and events in Western Montana. The Rut 12K and 50K are the newest additions to the calendar of Runner’s Edge Events.
